What exactly is a doula?
A doula’s role is to provide non-medical, holistic support to the mother and father. She provides this support through physical, emotional, and educational means.
She also helps the mother advocate for herself by facilitating communication between expectant parents and medical care providers to encourage informed decision-making.

The Birth Restored Doula Certification program takes a multistep approach to fully educate, equip, and empower its certified doulas.
A doula provides educational support. Birth Restored doulas are also fully certified childbirth educators. Unlike many doula programs, Birth Restored equips its doulas with more than superficial knowledge about birth.
A doula provides physical support. As a Birth Restored doula, you will be competent in supporting your client with science-based comfort measures and precise position changes to help facilitate labor progress or overcome labor challenges.
A doula provides emotional support. Birth Restored doulas learn how to emotionally support their clients, incorporating prayer and encouragement to reassure and comfort mothers during labor.

All educators must align with some core tenets of faith and ethics.
Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, and on the third day he rose from the dead and now sit’s at the right hand of God the Father.
You believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God written by man through the power of the Holy Spirit. You believe there are no additions to the Biblical text.
You must value the sanctity of all life. In our culture, this means you are “pro-life.”
You believe God made humans male and female. Females are the only ones biologically capable of bearing children.
You believe in medical choice. Tests, procedures, or medications should never be forced on a patient nor their child.
You follow Christian morals and values in accordance to the Bible and do not promote lifestyle choices that are specifically stated as sin.

Faith in integrated into every aspect of the course. Our faith as followers of Christ impacts all that we do. At Birth Restored that means scripture is at the core. We take a unique perspective to birth by combining what God’s word says, what the best evidence based best practice says, and encouraging our educators, doulas, and parents to pray and listen to the discernment of the Holy Spirit for guidance.

Birth Restored offers two certifications.
Childbirth Educator (CBE)
Childbirth Educator & Labor Doula
You can choose to become a Birth Restored Educator as a stand alone or you can choose to become CBE and Doula. One key component of being an effective doula is to help educate your clients. Many doula certifications do not offer sufficient childbirth education to their doula programs which is a disservice to the doulas and their future clients.
You are not required to teach the Birth Restored childbirth education course, but it is a required part of the doula certification program.

The short answer is No.
The long answer is doulas need to know more than childbirth educators. A childbirth educator needs to understand birth but a doula needs to not only understand birth but be able to support clients with educationally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
The Birth Restored doula certification builds on the knowledge one learns in the childbirth education certification. You will take the “book” knowledge and learn how to apply it to real life situations as a supportive and knowledgeable doula. -

Birth Restored has an online thriving community where many educators and doulas help support one another in their work.
In addition to the online community, all Birth Restored educators and doulas have 1-1 access to Akasha Hines for support as they grow in their knowledge and skills. -

There is a $150 renewal certification once every two years. This certification helps support the Birth Restored scholarship fund as well as continuing to support active doulas.

Yes, Birth Restored offers 4 in person trainings throughout the year to work through hands on skills and deepen your knowledge as a doula.
Hands on workshops are currently offered in the North Dallas, Texas area.

The CBE + Doula certification is a self-paced program.
1. You will complete the online curriculum which is a combination of reading, videos, and quizzes. The quizzes are low pressure open book/notes.
2. Once all coursework is completed and graded, you will attend an online Certification Day (unless you live local). Your certification day will cover the ins and outs of teaching the course, setting up your business, and help cover any specific questions you have as you learn to spread your wings and step into your calling. -

There are no exams, essays, or certification births to be certified.
However there is quite a bit of course content you will be required to read and many quizzes. The quizzes are verification of your learning and are low pressure.
Certification births are not required, but we do encourage you to attend 5 births prior to offering your full package services. This would be supporting family, friends, or your local community members, as well as shadowing a local doula.
